AMU 1O1:

Gr. 9 Instrumental Music (beginner)

This course is a great opportunity for those who enjoy music and would like to learn an instrument. Students in this course begin by developing their rhythm before choosing an instrument from the woodwind, brass, or percussion family. Through daily rehearsals in a supportive environment, students will develop not only their musical ability but also their confidence. In addition, through a variety of analytical and theoretical activities, students will develop both their musical literacy and critical thinking skills.

No instrumental experience is required for this course.
AMU 1OE:

Gr. 9 Instrumental Music (experienced)

This course is a great opportunity for those with some music experience to apply their skills to a new instrument. Students in this course begin by developing their rhythm before choosing an instrument from the woodwind, brass, or percussion family. Through daily rehearsals in a supportive environment, students will develop not only their musical ability but also their confidence. In addition, through a variety of analytical and theoretical activities, students will develop both their musical literacy and critical thinking skills.

This course is intended for students with prior experience either through the completion of private instruction or the DSBN elementary music program.
AMV 1O1:

Gr. 9 Vocal Music 

This course is ideal for those who enjoy singing and wish to develop their voice through solo, small group, and choral performance in a safe and supportive environment. Students will cultivate their creativity, as well as their musical literacy and critical thinking skills through a variety of composition, performance, and analytical activities. Many of the skills honed in this course are transferable to other areas of their life, as a student and beyond.

No vocal experience is required for this course.

Gr. 10 Instrumental Music

AMI 2O1:

This course is for students who wish to take their Grade 9 music experience to the next level! In this class, students will improve their technique and skill on their instrument through new repertoire. They will develop their musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Additionally, students will explore the function of music in society, including its connection to and impact on individuals, communities, and cultures.

AMV 2O1:

Gr. 10 Vocal Music 

This course is ideal for those who enjoy singing and wish to develop their voice through solo, small group, and choral performance in a safe and supportive environment. Students will cultivate their creativity, as well as their musical literacy and critical thinking skills through a variety of composition, performance, and analytical activities. They will also explore the function of music in society with reference to the self, communities, and cultures. Both the topics we explore and the skills we develop in this course are intended to support each student’s development as a musician and beyond.

AMU 1O1 or AMU 1OE is a prerequisite for this course.
Students can take both AMI 2O1 and AMV 3M1.
There is no prerequisite for this course.
Students can take both AMI 3M1 and AMV 3M1.

AMI 3M1:

Gr. 11 Instrumental Music

This course develops students’ musical literacy through performance and the preparation and presentation of music productions. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

AMI 2O1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AMV 3M1:

Gr. 11 Vocal Music

This course is ideal for those with previous vocal experience, who wish to develop their voice through solo, small group, and choral performance in a safe and supportive environment. Independently and collaboratively, students will use current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyse music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

AMV 1O1 or AMV 2O1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AMI 4M1:

Gr. 12 Instrumental Music

This enhances musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.

AMI 3M1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AMV 4M1:

Gr. 12 Vocal Music

This course is ideal for those with previous vocal experience, who wish to develop their voice through solo, small group, and choral performance in a safe and supportive environment. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.

Students can take both AMI 4M1 and AMV 4M1.
