AVI 1O1:

Gr. 9 Visual Art

New to artmaking? This course is exploratory in nature, providing an overview of Visual Arts as a foundation for further study. Students will examine the Elements & Principles of Design and create studio works using a range of media, techniques, and styles. Projects include graphite, pastels, watercolour, acrylic paint, printmaking and clay.

No art-making experience is required for this course.
NAC 1O1:

Expressions of Indigenous Cultures

Come with us as we access various arts disciplines to create artworks that explore or reflect First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and cultures. Let’s learn about the cultural identities, histories, values, and ways of knowing of which First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples are so proud . You will demonstrate innovation, use the creative process and apply art-related concepts, methods, skills that are transferable beyond the classroom.

No art-making experience is required for this course.

Gr. 10 Visual Art

AVI 2O1:

This course enables students to develop their skill in producing and presenting artworks by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Students will apply the Elements and Principles of Design to artworks with a focus on the Creative Process. Students will learn to use the Critical Analysis Process to examine, interpret, and reflect on art within a personal, contemporary, and historical context.

There is no prerequisite for this course.

AVI 3M1:

Gr. 11 Visual Art

This course enables students to expand their knowledge and skills in Visual Arts. Students use the Creative Process to explore a range of themes through studio work that may include drawing, painting, sculpting, collage, and printmaking. Students will use the Critical Analysis Process to evaluate their own work and the work of others. This course examines the use of artwork as a means for self-expression and to convey meaning. 

AVI 1O1 or AVI 2O1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AWM 3M1:

Gr. 11 Drawing & Painting

Looking to build a strong portfolio? This skill-based focus course allows students to refine their technical skills in a variety of media to develop a more personal style. Units of study can include design, figure drawing, portraiture, art of the Renaissance, perspective, background development and more. 

AVI 1O1 or AVI 2O1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AVI 4M1:

Gr. 12 Visual Art

Students will refine their use of the creative process in creating and presenting two- and three-dimensional artworks using a variety of media. Students will deconstruct artworks and explore connections between art and society. The studio program enables students to explore a range of themes, materials, processes, and techniques that can be applied in their own art production.

AVI 3M1 is a prerequisite for this course.
AWM 4M1:

Gr. 12 Drawing & Painting

This specialized focus course offers students with a keen interest in the arts the opportunity to develop increasingly complex skills in a variety of media. Through the practice of making images and critically analyzing their own work and that of others, students will develop a more personal style through works that reflect more complex ideas and greater technical skill. Although students who take this course do not need to be going on to post-secondary studies in the arts, this course provides an opportunity for students to amass a diverse body of work for portfolio admission.

Students can take both AVI 4M1 and AWM 4M1.
